Orca forums

Post by hornakapopolis » Mon Sep 25, 2006 1:32 am

For the sake of space, we've decided to temporarily remove the "release" Orca forums since Orca has not reached a final release.

They'll be back, but our scroll wheel's are getting worn out.

what's the difference between avant and orca?
are they developed both by anderson?
why are they both in this forum?
which is better and if avant is better, why keeping updating orca?

many questions all in once, just to have an idea ;)

Orca is basically Avant but based on the Gecko rendering engine (Mozilla/Firefox) instead of the Trident rendering engine (IE).

Yes, both are developed by Anderson but Orca has been put on hold until Avant 11 is stable enough and feature complete.

They are both in this forum because they are both developed by Anderson.

Both have their pros and cons. IE, is insecure if you don't know what you are doing but is supported on more webpages.

Finally people that dislike firefox. I thought the concept didnt exist. Common sense would tell you if your on a IE clone website most people wouldnt like any other browser but thats not always the case.. I just hate firefox on principle. Not that theres really anything actually wrong with it.

There's several reasons I dislike FF ....;

1. The FF fanatics drove me to it
2. It's as slow as heck
3. It's as ugly as heck
4. It's a pain in the rear to use
5. It's a major resource drain

... but the clinching factor is definately #1 and #2

[joke] We should start an ANTI-FIREFOX campaign. Down with firefox, down with firefox!!!!![/joke]

Anyway, yea I have never liked firefox from the day it was released. It is definitely ugly. Mozilla wouldn't know a polished UI if it threw up on them. Years back I was going through every browser I could find to see if I could find a fast browser and even tried MyIE2(Maxthon) but nothing ever satisfied me until i came across Avant 10.0 Build 35. I was literally blown away when it opened. It was so fast. And all the features that came with it. Best browser ever! And now with Avant 11 with IE7. It just made the best better.

Hats off to Anderson and his revolutionary browser. That showed the world that IE could be great again. AND INDEED IT IS AND FOREVER WILL BE!!!!!!!! LONG LIVE AVANT BROWSER AND ITS LITTLE BROTHER ORCA!!

i totally agree ;)
other than hating the bookmarks in firefox i hate the way it looks even with different skins, i find it difficult to manage the toolbars and especially i hate the fact it's 'something different' from the 'usual' internet explorer.

i wonder why when someone uses something very different from what most of people uses they always have to show as if they are right and all the others are wrong (i feel the same about those who prefer mac or linux and basically hate windows, but about firefox it's even more hate..hehe)

well i like what most of people uses, because it's the standard. then it's good to make it better and if there are any problems i can try something different but not completely different.

avant is great because it enpowers internet explorer and has lots of features that satisfy even more than what i would need.

thanks anderson!

That's funny. I don't have any of those problems with FF. Oh, wait... I'm using it where it's designed to function optimally... in LINUX! ;)

Why not integrate Gecko into Avant, and merely have a settings config to switch the method of viewing pages?

And I don't really hate FF per se, but I do despise all its fans who won't shut up about it. You don't see me plugging Avant on every post I make in every forum, do you? And I've noticed the most disgusting trend recently. Some sites actually bar you from viewing them unless you are using FF. And I assume Orca would be able to view them, since I notice any script to detect browser interprets Avant as IE...

It is planned although no release date set. Also, it's not as easy as you think. It's not just as simple as but X files here and change 2 lines of code and it works. It would probably take a couple weeks to get right and another month or for the bugs to work out.
