Another Browser - Could this be copywright infringment?

Post by spaztech » Thu Feb 15, 2007 2:04 am

I found a new browser (or so I thought).
I downloaded and tried the browser, only to find it is identical to Avant.
I mean right down to the toolbar, Tools\Options, and right click menus!
The name is Advanced Browser.
It can be found at:
http://www.advancedbrowser.com/
Is this theft? Or is this a related browser? :?:

Old news ;), this was talked about behind the scenes, and in a now deleted thread in General Discussion when it first appeared.

Basically, the author of Avant Browser & Orca Browser, Anderson Che was paid to brand a version of Avant Browser circa 2003 for Advanced Search technologies with the understanding that it was for internal company use. However they decided to release it to the public.

If you wish to try an older version of Avant Browser, MysteryFCM keeps an archive of Avant Browser starting from version 7 here.
