Avant's New Web site Look

With statm1 also working on the "new look" Avant website, might be worth a new Topic to discuss the website itself, separate from the new Avant logo?

Thought to Ponder:

The website overall navigation changes, mainly the splash page layout and the "tabs" look and feel...

Will take a bit of getting used to, and one of the real questions is if new and established visitors and Avant users will be able to navigate as well or better than on the now "old" website.

Well, so far as the board is concerned I think the new design looks ALOT better than the previous design. As for being easier to navigate... I think its pretty much the same there are still buttons/tabs at the top to navigate with.

White is too bright (check the josephrot's post), don't know why so many sites have white background (RGB 255 255 255). Just a bit darker and it would be much better for our eyes...

OOOooo.. Thats what he meant by bright.. It just didnt click.. I can see if that can be changed to be alittle darker.. How does 247 247 247 #f7f7f7 sound for you?

Thanks, but it's not enoguh, I use 224 224 224 in Windows. Perhaps it might be a bit blue, since grey is not so nice, but I'm not sure about the buttons - shades, it looks it's too late for a change.

Anyway, it's not a problem for me, I visit only the forum, also to download new versions.

The homepage style is great, I just don't like the white background, that's all.

Well, I was only suggesting 247 247 247 as a compromise to make it not "as" bright. It has to stay fairly white. To keep a good flow of the gradient in the background.

After seeing and even developing a few web sites that use "off white" backgrounds, I now tend to agree...ALL white backgrounds or sites seem a bit too bright, and with a little careful use of off-white, very light gray, pastel colors, judicious use of colored text, etc...many web sites are now easier on the eyes, text seems to stand out a bit better, you can draw attention to important topics or facts, etc.

One thing to watch out for, though, is that many off-white sites and pages have to take into consideration that transparent graphics, texts and other transparent objects may not be feasible or look right when placed on anything other than a white background or page background element.

With the above in mind...the left hand "panel" of the main Avant website opening page [ http://www.avantbrowser.com/ ] seems mostly a white background, but the rest of the page is starting to use some nice-looking colors and light gray backgrounds, etc.

The whole site just seems easier to see and read than the now "old look" did. In fact, the use of "gray shading" here in the Forum is making for a bit easier reading as well.
