Orca in User-agent

Post by bigC » Wed Jul 09, 2008 6:45 pm

Why is Orca in my IE & Avant user-agent string?

Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; Orca; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)

Anyone else have that? I tested it on this page abfan posted,
http://mihopa.info/test/test5.html

I uninstalled both orca & AB but its still there...

It's not just you. I get the same thing.

While I certainly don't believe this, but your typical internet conspiracy person who cares about this stuff might slam Avant and Orca for trying to artificially inflate their usage numbers. Especially with this happening on portable version where someone might run Orca or Avant once (more likely Orca right now) and then it never gets used again.

I don't care about this stuff, but I also don't think a browser should make permanent, not easily alterable changes to a system.

Oh, I've used ORca and Avant. I didn't realize that it wasn't Orca leaving its user agent. Still, though, this seems a little different because you even mentioned that it doesn't go away.

Its going to be fixed.. Anderson by no means had any malicious intent by making the useragent work like that..

For what it's worth, it's still a nice find.
