Firefox engine continues to ask which application to use

I'm using Firefox as the rendering engine. I have set that I want Firefox to always use a certain application when downloading a specific file, for instance Adobe reader for PDF. Instead of running the application immediately, AB continues to prompts me with the pesky dialog asking what I want to do with the file, with the checkbox well checked and in Firefox's options each type of file is shown correctly associated to a single application.

The option "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" isn't available both in Avant and firefox here:

I can confirm. DutchGemini had installed the extension OpenDownload.
But the it is the same in firefox itself. Every time I download a pdf file, firefox keeps foregetting the previous settings.
