What is the difference between Avant and Orca?

Please excuse my ignorance, but in downloading both Avant and Orca, I see no difference between them whatsoever. What am I missing here? Thank you for listening.

They each use a different rendering engine. Avant uses Internet Explorer's (Trident), Orca uses Firefox's (Gecko).

heres what my experience using avant

i been using avant since 2005 somewhere in that year

anyway this is list of features i know to help you out the difference

orca

- faster bandwith surfing ,downloading and video streaming ( stickam, blogtv..etc)
- faster website loading

Avant

- Built for surfing , not suitable for youtube due to outdated update of the avant browser aren't
compitable with youtube
- Download Engine are based on I.e which very slow download

So far orca is the best software that nearly beats firefox.

Avant has no problems with YouTube (provided that you have IE7 or IE8 installed on your system).

One difference that I have found annoying is in the operation of download managing. Avant does it very nicely and lets you do other things at the same time. In Orca the download manager locks Orca, so you can't do anything while its downloading.

Not true - I can browse without a problem even while downloading multiple files. Maybe you need to apply the networking speed tweak for Orca.

The problem I have is not with speed. It is an absolute freeze. For example I cannot even reduce to the bottom of the screen (click on _) or even move the box (download manager) while it is going.

-- i think u should try my solution if that works

1. Clear your cache
2. Scan ur files anti virus and clean them
3.Defrag
4. Do cleanupd disk probably some left out files that u didnt know got infected
5. Tweaking like everytime kudos will ask u if u had some connection trouble etc.
6.on cmd type ipconfig /flushdns
7.Msconfig settings - try to google it how to use msconfig if u didnt know about it

How to access Msconfig
Start > Run> type Msconfig

8.Restart

9.again clear the cache on internet explorer

The only other things running (which take up very little cpu time) are anti-virus, etc. The plugins and extensions are the same as I've listed before (including the realplayer streaming capture, which doesn't matter, since the problem occurs with or without it). For example - right now system idle is roughly 80% and Orca the major part of the remainder. I'm also listening to some music - this is taking about 2% of the cpu time.

Further note: I downloaded an audio file with the task manager display on. Most of the time was taken by Orca and System - my music was unaffected.

right click & save file.

For redcore - I have Avira sweeping nightly as well as being on all the time, also firewall, so a virus is extremely unlikely. It is not a question of slowing things down - it is an absolute lockup while downloading, which fortunately is fairly fast - a 35 Meg file will take about 5 sec. During this time I cannot do anything in Orca, but if I use Avant or Firefox I don't encounter any such problem.

I believe that in past conversations that we have deleted all Orca settings so it is unlikely to be that. Did you remove the streaming capture extension completely?

It had been on, so I deleted it and tried again. It makes no difference.

As for the download manager - there are settings. They don't get deleted, only changed. For example after a download, the download manager closes - the default had been to leave it open.
