AB Chat

Okay, I couldn't resist it (esp after going in the Chatzy chat room).

I decided to design and write my own AB chat room. Would love opinions? (and anyone willing to test it.... as I've not been able to test whether there are any problems with multiple users yet).

I must apologise for the rather horrible image on the main page, I'm crap at graphics, and just did a quick n dirty one.

Tried, couldn't. Signed in as SweetLou. Got a page, "you have been succesfully logged out". Tried again and it said SweetLou was already taken. When I first tried, there was 1 person online. Second attempt 2 people online. I assume I was the second person.
Edit: Tried again as Monkeyhead. Same thing happened. 2 people online, "you have been succesfully logged out-session timed out" Now, 3 people online.

I'm there now--needs some way of alerting us if someone comes in--can't sit staring and freshing a screen all night LOL!

It's good that it has the who's online, but you need something to advise members; who've login & left the room site open, while they surf the net or the forum that a discussion is in progress or somebody else has entered the room/posted a message. (Like Chatzy's Alerts)
If this takes off we can ignore Chatzy & put the link for it in its place.

The room kicked us all out--didn't it like the smilies? I had just entered one from Emotipad. Now it won't let me back in!

I can't get it. It says "You are now logged out - (Session timed out)" and then it pushes me back to the AB Chat home page.

Last night I was having the same trouble with logging in. I received the same message. I had to enable cookies, then no problem.
Edit: Oh, I see now there is a message on the loggin page to enable cookies.

I've made a couple of improvements to the room. Firstly, I've moved the Logout button to the top right (above "Users") so it's not right next to the Send button.

I've also added a link to the Smilies page which shows you what to type for each one.

Still no alerts yet though (I'm working on it and am hoping to have them added within the next day or so....... depending on how it goes).

Thanks to everyone thats tried it so far...... tis much appreciated.

One suggestion. Make the refresh time 6 seconds. The animation of one of the smilies doesn't complete in 5 seconds. I don't think 1 second should make a huge difference.

Quick update.

As the timeout was causing so many problems, I've decided to remove it, so now it simply shouldn't activate at all (unless I've missed something (don't think I have, but am scanning my code again to make sure)).

Another quick update.

I've made a few minor modifications to the main login page, and have changed the logout button to a nifty little emoticon, and have added a few more chaticons.

Oh and I've also added a profanity emoticon (replaces certain words with the profanitycon)
